We are thinking about you, and sending love to you and your family and the whole Richmond community. These are unprecedented times. We know that the impacts of the Coronavirus are going to have different impacts on different communities. The superintendent of RPS Jason Kamras said it well in a recent email, “ I am most concerned about those within our community who already struggle with the injustices that come with poverty, institutionalized racism, and/or immigration status. This extended closure will only amplify these injustices.”
So whoever you are and however this epidemic is impacting life for you and yours, please know that our hearts are with you, and together we will come out of this on the other side.
STAY RVA will be supporting ongoing efforts led by RPS and its partners. We will help get the word out about the Herculean efforts of the entire RPS community. The food distribution and drop offs are a wonderful example of folks making it happen. Seriously, we are ever so thankful to each of you.
Here are two specific ways you can help.
- Make a donation to the RPS Education Foundation which is directly giving money to the school system to help with coronavirus efforts. This money will be spent on foods and basic needs first and then education efforts. https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/rpscoronavirusresponse
- Communities In Schools is collecting the following items for RPS families: cleaning supplies, paper towels, and diapers. Please drop them off on Tuesdays between 10:00am-12:00pm at:
2922 W. Marshall St. Ste. 2
Richmond, VA 23230
